Children and Prepubescent Adolescents: Hormone levels in children and prepubescent adolescents are naturally fluctuating and not fully developed. Therefore, interpreting results from the DUTCH test can be challenging and may not provide meaningful insights.

Pregnant or Breastfeeding Women: Hormone levels during pregnancy and breastfeeding are significantly different from typical adult levels. The DUTCH test is not designed to assess hormone levels accurately in these populations.

Individuals on Certain Medications: Some medications can significantly alter hormone levels and metabolism. 

Patients on hormone replacement therapy (HRT), birth control pills, or other hormone-modulating medications might not get accurate assessments of their natural hormone levels using the DUTCH test.

Those with Kidney or Liver Impairments: Since the test measures hormone metabolites excreted in urine, individuals with kidney or liver disorders may have altered hormone metabolism, which could affect the accuracy of the test results.

People with Acute Illnesses: Acute illnesses or recent surgeries can temporarily disrupt hormone levels. It's advisable to wait until recovery before taking the test for more accurate results.

If Recommended Against by a Healthcare Provider: If a healthcare provider advises against the test due to specific health conditions or other diagnostic priorities, it's important to follow their guidance.

If you do the DUTCH complete it will be 5 dried urine samples.

Ideally the DUTCH complete or sex hormone test is done on days 19, 20, 21, or 22 (or 5-7 days after ovulation is the goal) if the first day of bleeding is considered day 1.

Men and menopausal women can collect their samples at any time.

For women with irregular cycles, you can get an ovulation testing kit and test when you're ovulating to determine when to collect your sample. Or you can contact our office about adding on a Cycle Mapping which would allow you to collect samples throughout the month.

Yes! However, we will have to send you a separate invoice for the shipping fee. The shipping fee will change depending on what country you live in. It can range from $50-$150.

Some supplements may affect your organic acid results. Please consult your healthcare provider regarding collection preparation and timing if you take any of the following supplements:

Tyrosine
L-Dopa
D,L-Phenylalanine (DLPA)
Mucuna
Quercetin
DO NOT skip doses of birth control unless instructed by your healthcare provider.
If you are taking
Patch, Pellet, or Injectable Hormones: Collect your sample midway between doses.
Glucocorticoids: Check with your healthcare provider regarding when you should collect your samples.

72 hours before sample collection

Avoid taking the following oral hormones:
Estrogen
Pregnenolone

48 hours before sample collection

Avoid taking oral DHEA.

48 hours before sample collection

Avoid the following foods before sample collection.
Avocados
Bananas
Fava beans

Sample Collection Day 1

Limit your fluid intake.
Keep fluids to no more than 40 oz total (spread evenly throughout the day).

Avoid the following beverages starting after lunch.

Alcohol
Caffeine
DO NOT drink any fluids for 2 hours before collecting each sample.

If you take hormones at night, wait to take them until after you collect the bedtime sample (sample 2).

Sample Collection Day 2

Limit your fluid intake.
DO NOT drink any fluids before collecting sample 3.
You can drink a little water immediately after sample 3. DO NOT drink more than 8 oz.
If you take hormones in the morning, wait to take your hormones after you collect the second morning sample (sample 4).

You will be collecting 4-5 samples:

Day 1:
Dinnertime
Bedtime
Overnight sample (if you wake to go to the bathroom)

Day 2:
Wake/rising
2 hrs after waking
